 FAQ

Why Do I Need a Generator Interlock?

Many people choose to install a back-up generator and connection box to their home. Outside, the generator cable in plugged into the generator and this connection box. Inside, the connection box is wired to a generator circuit breaker in the home's main breaker panel. This avoids having to run extension cords all over the home every time the power goes out and allows the generator to power your entire home (up to the generator and generator cable limits of course).

This setup works fine as long as the panel's main breaker and generator breaker are NEVER turned ON at the same time. If they were both ON at the same time, the generator would "back feed" the utility line which normally feeds the home and could injure or kill a lineman who is expecting the line to be not energized. Additionally, severe damage to a generator would likely be done from being energized when the utility power is restored. A generator interlock prevents these situations from occurring. The interlock will NEVER allow the main and generator breakers to be turned ON at the same time. This is the only safe way to connect a generator connection box directly to your breaker panel. Our generator interlock kits meet the requirements of Article 702 of the National Electric Code ANSI/NFPA 70.

Why Are We Better?

Unlike our competitors, our generator interlocks are made from solid T-6061 Aluminum and are precision CNC machined. Corners and edges are radiused and softened (no sharp edges here!). There are no stamped metal pieces and no plastic. The interlocks are sand blasted after machining and then color anodized. This makes them operate smoothly and prevents corrosion and oxidation. These interlocks look professional and they make the installer look professional.

What is included?

Everything needed to complete the installation is included. In addition to the interlock assembly, step by step, easy to understand instructions, a quality HSS 3/16" drill bit, a package of thread lock compound, a generator breaker retention strap, and even a full set of color vinyl weather resistant labels are supplied in every kit.
